What's the Mentor Zone?

The Mentor Zone turns a festival full of experienced people into time you can book: founders, operators, investors, engineers and creatives, across every industry track, with room to ask the question you actually came with.

Three ways in

Pick your format

  • 15 MINUTES · BOOK AHEAD

    One-on-ones

Your own short slot with one mentor. Long enough for a real answer, short enough that mentors can see a lot of people.

    • Pick a mentor by industry or topic
    • Bring one clear question
    • Book when the schedule opens
  • 45 MINUTES · UP TO 8 PEOPLE

    Mentor Hours

One mentor, a small group and one topic, from raising a first round to getting hired in a new industry. You learn from everyone's questions.

    • One topic per session
    • Small groups, so everyone talks
    • Book a seat ahead
  • OPEN · FIRST COME

    Drop-in tables

Tables by industry track, open to anyone with a pass. No booking: find your industry, sit down, and join the conversation.

    • No booking needed
    • A table for each industry track
    • Come and go between sessions

Who you can meet

Every industry track

Mentors come from all ten industry tracks in the Workshops & Masterclasses, so you can pair a session with a conversation. Mentors are announced with the schedule.

And topics for any industry

  • Fundraising and investor readiness
  • Product, design and engineering
  • Using AI in your work
  • Breaking into tech and career changes
  • Working in Canada as a newcomer
  • Sales, partnerships and first customers

Built for you

Who it's for

  1. Founders

Test your pitch, your pricing or your next hire with someone who has been there.

  2. Job seekers

Students, career changers and newcomers: talk through your path, then meet employers at the Village Expo.

  3. Builders

Get unstuck on an architecture, a design or a hackathon idea.

  4. Creatives

Turn a creative practice into a business, or bring tech into your work.

Make the most of your slot

  • Come with one question, not your whole story.
  • Have your deck, portfolio or demo open on your phone.
  • Ask who else you should talk to this week.
  • Follow up within a few days, and say what you did with the advice.

Become a mentor

Give a block of one-on-ones, host a Mentor Hour on a topic you know, or sit at your industry's drop-in table. You choose the topic and the time.

  • Founders and operators
  • Investors and advisors
  • Engineers, designers and researchers
  • Hiring managers and recruiters
  • Creatives who have built a business

How it works

Four steps

  1. Get your pass

The Mentor Zone is included with the Tech, Tribe, VIP and Executive passes, and with the Diversity Pass.

  2. Book when the schedule opens

One-on-ones and Mentor Hour seats are booked ahead. We'll tell you when booking opens.

  3. Prepare one question

Know what you want to walk away with, and bring anything the mentor should see.

  4. Show up on time

Slots are short and back to back. Drop-in tables are there if you miss yours.

FAQ

Good to know

Does the Mentor Zone cost extra?
No. It's included with the Tech Pass and every pass above it, and with the Diversity Pass.
How do I book?
Booking for one-on-ones and Mentor Hours opens with the festival schedule. Sign up for updates and we'll let you know.
Can I book more than one session?
Yes, as long as seats are free. We may limit how many one-on-ones one person can hold so everyone gets a turn.
Is this only for founders?
No. Mentors cover careers, building, creative work and every industry track, not only startups.
Can I meet investors here?
Some mentors are investors, but the Mentor Zone is for advice, not pitching. For deal flow, see the Investor's Zone.
How do I become a mentor?
Apply through the speaker form and say you'd like to mentor, with your industry and topics.
